1977 Mercedes 450SL
-
Hey everyone, I’m Moha. I’m in the middle of converting a 1977 Mercedes 450SL into an electric car. I found it without an engine or transmission, which made it the perfect candidate for a full EV build.
Here are a few photos of the car when I first picked it up:

The car had been abandoned with no paperwork, so getting the title sorted out took quite a bit of time.

I’ll keep sharing updates as the project moves forward. -
a new update.
I was able to find an impounded 2013 Nissan Leaf for a really good deal and picked it up to use as the donor car. The battery is showing 7 bars of health, which is enough for now. I may upgrade the battery later in the project, but for the initial build I’ll be using the original pack.

The car itself is in great shape as a donor. It does have a broken ball joint and some body damage, but since it’s only being used for parts, that doesn’t really matter. I also got lucky because the car came with the charger.
I’ll start posting teardown photos and updates as I pull more parts from it. -
I’ve started tearing down the Leaf and pulling the parts I’ll be using for the conversion. So far I’ve removed the motor, inverter, reduction gear, battery pack, and most of the wiring I need.

Next step is setting everything up for bench testing before anything goes into the Mercedes.
More updates coming soon.

That's a really cool build!
Are you going to be using the Leaf's gear box?
Will definitely follow this thread!
@Sebbe1337, yeah, that's the plan. Since the torque box I found is expensive, it's also good for weight balance.
