Resolve controller with Orion BMS and new NMC CATL modules
-
@isak or others.
Is it possible to replace the Nissan Leaf BMS with an Orion 2 BMS?
Are there any technical issues with this that you are aware of?We have used Orion BMSs on conversion with AEM controllers and Cascadia Motion PM series in the past and have quite a bit of experience with canbus diagnosis to get stuff to work and to drive instrumentation.
Orions have quite a lot of flexibility with sending and receiving canbus messages; address, format, frequency. Canbus messaging to the controller includes DCL, CCL, current, temperatures and the Orion controlling peak C short term timing. Also various error messages, flags.
They also have very granular control for canbus charger settings.We are however new to the leaf stack world and still have lots to learn here.

Hi!
Unfortunately not. We have some beta testing with orion BMS, but it requires new software. Since it's not possible on the Orion BMS to program a canbus interface that completely imitates the leaf bms. It's only possible to set signals in mutliples of bytes on the orion SW (as far as I know). -
@isak , thanks. It is pretty flexible you can set up bit flags, byte variables, change msg addresses, use both standard and extended msg formats, etc.
Can you point me to the message formats we need to receive / send. A .dbc file would be ideal with msg numbers shown that need to be emulated for the Resolve/Leaf.
I'm happy to work on this as I think it would help a lot of people.Do you feel it is new software on the Resolve or the Orion required? We have used multiple versions of the Orion firmware to address issues with integration AEM/Fellten/Bi-Chargers, etc. Perhaps one of those could do it.
